Cristian Javier, Astros' Bullpen No-Hit Yankees

Jun 26, 2022 12:29 AM

Like most pitchers, Houston Astros pitcher Cristian Javier grew up dreaming of one day throwing a no-hitter.

While he still has yet to toss a complete game in 84 professional starts, the 25-year-old starter was part of one for the first time as a big leaguer on Saturday afternoon in the Bronx.

Javier, Hector Neris and Ryan Pressly combined for the first no-hitter against the New York Yankees in 19 years, shutting down the best team in baseball for a 3-0 victory at Yankee Stadium on Saturday.

Jack Suwinski First Rookie To Have 3-HR Game, Including Walk-Off HR

Jun 19, 2022 10:55 PM

Jack Suwinski hit his third homer of the game in the ninth inning, giving the Pirates a 4-3, walk-off victory over the Giants on Sunday to avoid a three-game sweep.

The rookie drove a slider from sidearming Tyler Rogers (0-3) to right for his second game-ending home run of the season after connecting for one June 4 against the Diamondbacks.

Suwinski became the first rookie in major league history to have a three-homer game that included a walk-off home run, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. He also became the first Pirates player with multiple walk-off home runs in a single month since Wally Westlake in September of 1947, according to ESPN Stats & Information research.

Astros First MLB Team To Throw Two Immaculate Innings In Same Game

Jun 15, 2022 7:27 PM

Houston starter Luis Garcia and reliever Phil Maton each threw an immaculate inning -- nine pitches, three strikeouts -- after a big opening offensive outburst for the Astros.

Martin Maldonado, their 35-year-old veteran catcher, was in the middle of it all.

Maldonado had a two-run double in Houston's six-run first, later homered and was behind the plate for all the strikeouts -- 14 in all -- as the AL West leaders wrapped up their seventh consecutive series victory against the Texas Rangers with a 9-2 win Wednesday.

"To be part of that, anytime you make history ... I'm glad I was catching in that situation," Maldonado said, adding he didn't remember ever being part of an immaculate inning, much less two of them.

'Fire Tony!' Chants As White Sox Blow Lead In Loss

Jun 11, 2022 9:30 PM

Loud chants of "Fire Tony!" broke out at Guaranteed Rate Field as manager Tony La Russa and the Chicago White Sox blew a five-run lead and lost to the Texas Rangers 11-9 in 10 innings on Saturday.

La Russa has been under increased scrutiny this week since ordering an unconventional intentional walk in a loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The White Sox won the AL Central last season but now are just 27-30 under their 77-year-old Hall of Fame manager.
